Scientific experiment: Italy is looking for volunteers to live in the Alps

A scientific project called Mahe has been launched in Italy, seeking people willing to spend a month in the Alps at an altitude of around 2,300 metres.

Participants will have their accommodation and meals fully covered and will receive €400. The experiment will take place at the ‘Nino Corsi’ mountain refuge in the Stelvio National Park (August–September). The aim is to investigate how the body adapts to life at moderate altitudes, as there is currently a lack of data on this.

Eligibility criteria:

  • aged 18–40, with no chronic illnesses
  • no harmful habits or intensive training
  • not to have been at an altitude above 1,500 m for at least 4 weeks prior to the start The experiment will last approximately 6 weeks.

During the experiment, you can work remotely or simply relax, whilst scientists monitor your health, sleep, endurance and metabolism. There is currently no registration form on the website — you need to contact us directly: 📧 Email for applications: mahe@eurac.edu
